His genius finally recognized by his idol Chester V, inventor Flint Lockwood gets to join Chester's company, where he can work full-time on technologies to help mankind. However, Flint soon discovers that his most-famous machine, which turns water into food, is still operating but now creates animal/vegetable hybrids. With the fate of humanity in Flint's hands, he and his friends set out to save the world from tacodiles, shrimpanzees and other deliciously dangerous creatures.
While not as clever or inventive as its predecessor, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 compensates with enough dazzling visuals to keep younger viewers entertained.

Leonard Maltin | leonardmaltin.com | Rotten | — | 2013-09-27T12:28:32.000Z | 2013-09-27 12:28:32 | The movie picks up where the last one left off, but the sequel bears little resemblance to 2009's "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs."
Kristian Harloff | Schmoes Know | Rotten | 2.5/5 | 2013-09-27T11:39:18.000Z | 2013-09-27 11:39:18 | Kids should be entertained by the visuals, and adults can at least take solace in the fact that they're in a dark theater where no one can catch them snoozing. Just make sure you're not a snorer.
Mark Ellis | Schmoes Know | Rotten | 2/5 | 2013-09-27T11:33:37.000Z | 2013-09-27 11:33:37 | Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 is all carbs with no protein to be found.
Jeffrey M. Anderson | Combustible Celluloid | Fresh | 3/4 | 2013-09-27T10:12:56.000Z | 2013-09-27 10:12:56 | The movie works thanks to its brisk pace (it seems as if animated films these days are far better paced than their increasingly bloated, lumbering live-action counterparts), cheerful humor, and awesome visual ideas.
Alicia Malone | IGN | Fresh | 8/10 | 2013-09-27T09:47:19.000Z | 2013-09-27 09:47:19 | Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 is full of cute food puns and enough on-screen action to keep kids amused. Whatever your age, it's really hard not to enjoy this film.
Gary Wolcott | Tri-City Herald | Fresh | 5/5 | 2013-09-27T09:44:32.000Z | 2013-09-27 09:44:32 | I ate this one up. Five writers and directors Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn, have produced one of the most clever, and funniest, animated sequels ever.
Peter Hartlaub | San Francisco Chronicle | Rotten | 2/4 | 2013-09-27T09:39:22.000Z | 2013-09-27 09:39:22 | A humorous yet unfocused romp, so unwilling to settle on a single theme that hyperactivity medication should be handed out with the 3-D glasses.
Rick Bentley | Fresno Bee | Rotten | C+ | 2013-09-27T09:19:17.000Z | 2013-09-27 09:19:17 | Directors Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn give the film the frantic pace and bright colors needed to keep the attention of kids. Adults who are looking for more will be left cold.
Steve Davis | Austin Chronicle | Rotten | 2/5 | 2013-09-27T09:07:27.000Z | 2013-09-27 09:07:27 | For both kids and adults, CWCM2 is little more than a vague memory as soon as it's over.
David Hiltbrand | Philadelphia Inquirer | Fresh | 3/4 | 2013-09-27T08:48:28.000Z | 2013-09-27 08:48:28 | This scrumptious sequel follows the same recipe as the 2009 original.
Austin Kennedy | Film Geek Central | Rotten | 2.5/4 | 2013-09-27T08:24:11.000Z | 2013-09-27 08:24:11 | It's visually impressive. However, that script just doesn't have the unexpected magic of the first one.
Bilge Ebiri | New York Magazine/Vulture | Fresh | — | 2013-09-27T08:17:48.000Z | 2013-09-27 08:17:48 | It's all very cute and awesomely disgusting, like a 9-year-old stuffing his face full of food and then pressing his cheeks to make it all explode out. (Nine-year-olds still do that, right?)
Sandie Angulo Chen | Common Sense Media | Fresh | 3/5 | 2013-09-27T07:42:38.000Z | 2013-09-27 07:42:38 | Sequel gives new meaning to playing with your food.
Teddy Durgin | Screen It! | Fresh | — | 2013-09-27T07:26:50.000Z | 2013-09-27 07:26:50 | I think you and yours will find this movie very entertaining and worth the extra outlay of cash for theaters showing it in 3-D. (Full Content Review for Parents also available)
Matthew Razak | Flixist.com | Rotten | 51/100 | 2013-09-27T07:26:24.000Z | 2013-09-27 07:26:24 | Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 is a sequel that wasn't needed and feels like it.
Erick Weber | Final Cut on Film | Rotten | C | 2013-09-27T07:18:14.000Z | 2013-09-27 07:18:14 | The makers of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 spend the first five minutes of their subpar sequel recapping the original, a handy reminder just how inferior Flint Lockwood's second cinematic outing is to his first.
John Serba | MLive.com | Fresh | 2.5/4 | 2013-09-27T07:02:41.000Z | 2013-09-27 07:02:41 | Like its predecessor, the sequel is paced like a triple Skittle-and-espresso cocktail.
Jolene Mendez | Entertainment Spectrum | Fresh | 4/5 | 2013-09-27T06:39:35.000Z | 2013-09-27 06:39:35 | Its brilliant idea of foodimals and striking images will capture the audience's attention and keep them enthralled.
Drew McWeeny | HitFix | Fresh | B+ | 2013-09-27T01:52:30.000Z | 2013-09-27 01:52:30 | It's cute. It's funny. Kids will want the toys in a major way. And yet it slightly unsettles me precisely because of how strange the message is by the end of the film.
Adam Fendelman | HollywoodChicago.com | Fresh | 3.5/5.0 | 2013-09-27T00:21:46.000Z | 2013-09-27 00:21:46 | The film had the right idea with Barry the strawberry, who poops jelly when he's afraid. But "Cloudy 2" is relatively simple, too straightforward and forgets that kids are smart, too.
Daniel M. Kimmel | North Shore Movies | Rotten | 2/5 | 2013-09-26T23:54:01.000Z | 2013-09-26 23:54:01 | Undiscriminating youngsters may be diverted, but even grownups who were somehow charmed by the original movie will have a hard time swallowing this sorry stew.
Mark Dujsik | Mark Reviews Movies | Fresh | 3/4 | 2013-09-26T23:50:18.000Z | 2013-09-26 23:50:18 | Like its predecessor, the film is silly for the sake of being silly, and ... it buys into that premise wholeheartedly, which is the film's most significant charm.
Jordan Adler | We Got This Covered | Rotten | 5/10 | 2013-09-26T21:17:45.000Z | 2013-09-26 21:17:45 | Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 overwhelms with frantic action and lame food-related puns, as character development and story depth become leftovers
Dustin Putman | TheFilmFile.com | Rotten | 2/4 | 2013-09-26T21:09:49.000Z | 2013-09-26 21:09:49 | An obligatory also-ran missing the edible magic that made the one before it so delectable.
Betsy Sharkey | Los Angeles Times | Fresh | 3.5/5 | 2013-09-26T16:13:21.000Z | 2013-09-26 16:13:21 | Honestly, anyone who can pull off a running joke about leeks that does not make you gag, and is in fact a silly delight, deserves props.
Mike Clark | USA Today | Fresh | 2.5/4 | 2013-09-26T15:15:24.000Z | 2013-09-26 15:15:24 | There's not a surprise or moment of tension to be found here, but the film is all energy and color that makes the discomfort of 3-D glasses seem worth it.
Tom Russo | Boston Globe | Rotten | 2/4 | 2013-09-26T14:47:51.000Z | 2013-09-26 14:47:51 | It's another brightly rendered effort, but, as the title indicates, a lot of the real creativity seems to have been used up the first time around.
Miriam Bale | New York Times | Fresh | 3/5 | 2013-09-26T14:46:47.000Z | 2013-09-26 14:46:47 | Sometimes so strange, colorful and wildly cute that it may end up becoming a "Yellow Submarine" for a new generation.
Rafer Guzman | Newsday | Rotten | 1.5/4 | 2013-09-26T14:32:57.000Z | 2013-09-26 14:32:57 | Mostly, "Cloudy 2" relies on the usual noxious recipe for junky kid flicks: loud noise, pop music and poop jokes.
Laura Clifford | Reeling Reviews | Rotten | C | 2013-09-26T14:25:10.000Z | 2013-09-26 14:25:10 | The many nods to "Jurassic Park" will more than likely fly over the heads of the film's target audience while hitting adults over their noggins and the Apple/Google-like Live Corp with its Steve Jobs inspired CEO skirts over parody rather than mining it.
Kyle Smith | New York Post | Rotten | 1/4 | 2013-09-26T14:23:11.000Z | 2013-09-26 14:23:11 | Whelk, I hope the makers of "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" earned a nice celery, but I'm afraid they made a hash of things. A hash seasoned with oy sauce.
